Community Health Center of the NRV

An important collaboration that has developed over the past few years has been our partnership with the Community Health Center of the New River Valley (CHCNRV).  With three center locations in Montgomery, Giles and Pulaski counties, the CHCNRV is a low-cost option for quality dental care for all residents of the NRV. Dental Aid NRV refers area residents to CHCNRV if individuals have found it difficult to find immediate and affordable care at other practices.  In addition, CHCNRV dental staff join Dental Aid NRV volunteers during the school year and provide “Smile Checks” to students of all ages to determine their dental health. The CHCNRV has several dentists (including pediatric-focused dentists), hygienists and assistants who provide all general dentistry services including crowns, bridges, partials and full dentures.  Visit their website or call 540-381-0820 for more information on how to become a patient.

Virginia Western and Wytheville Community Colleges

Both Virginia Western Community College (540-857-7221) and Wytheville Community College (1-800-468-1195 or 276-223-4830) have dental hygiene clinics. Families may contact these colleges for basic dental cleaning, sealant, and fluoride services.

Mission of Mercy (MOM) Clinics

The Virginia Dental Association (VDA) offers a Mission of Mercy (MOM) program, operating mobile dental clinics across the state.  Please visit the VDA website for dates and locations of upcoming clinics and contact information for each.

Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinics

Remote Area Medical provides free dental, vision, and medical care to isolated, impoverished, or underserved communities. These clinics are held at fairgrounds, schools, and arenas, turning them into mobile medical centers.  Several ciinics are scheduled in Virginia, including Wise, Smyth County, and Grundy. Please visit the RAM website for more information.

Hospital Eligibility Assistance Services (EAS)

If your doctor ordered you to have all teeth removed or if you have serious medical conditions or disabilities that will require you to be under anesthesia or to be monitored in a hospital setting during the dental procedure, have your doctor refer you directly to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. They can provide the dental services in their operating room. The hospital will charge for this service, but you can call the hospital’s Eligibility Assistance Services at 540-224-5200 or 1-800-928-2860 to speak with a Patient Ambassador about financial assistance.

Med-Ride is non-emergency transportation to health-service appointments in the New River Valley for persons who do not have transportation or cannot afford public transportation.  It operates on a sliding scale (taking into consideration both income and expenses). There is a minimum fee of $5.00 per trip. Eligibility is determined by a telephone assessment interview. For more information, please call 1-888-633-7433.
